Just Like the '80s.

This past weekend I went to one of the best shows I've seen in a while. It was an '80s dance themed night, and the lineup included electronic-based artists Isopod, Radio Way, and Ohm's Law. The show was in Big Bear, a resort community in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California. Often it seems the smaller the town, the better the show. There weren't a ton of people there, but the ones that were there danced hard! Here's my rundown of the show:

First up was one-man-band Isopod. I've seen one Isopod set before, and he did not disappoint. His technical prowess and his experimentation with gadgets is enough to make any tech geek giddy. Plus, I love the fact that he has two different mics set up for his two different performance voices. Throughout the set, it was as if he was carrying on a dialogue with himself, and the audience was lucky enough to listen in. Very cool.

Next up was Radio Way. This three piece from Oregon was the only band of the night to include a guitar in their lineup, but they managed to keep the electronic vibe going. These guys have massively improved since the last time I saw them live. Not that they weren't good before, but they've tightened up their set in every way. They've really learned how to get the crowd involved. Also, they played the title song off their new Radio Way EP, Just Like the '80s, which fit the theme of the night perfectly.

The last band of the night was Ohm's Law. I can't recommend these guys highly enough. Their live sets are well oiled, perfectly timed, and cleverly performed. This show was no exception. Their low-fi light show was a fun new addition to their performance. Also, I've never seen a band get the audience involved more effectively that Ohm's Law. By the last song of their set, every person in the room, including Isopod, Radio Way, and the sound guy, was up in front dancing. Ohm's Law's songs are a mix of video game nostalgia, humorous storytelling, and haunted houses. In other words, they are awesome. If you've never seen them play live, do yourself a favor and go to one of their shows.

Overall, this was a sweet night. Oh, and did I mention it didn't cost a penny? I guess the best things in life are free. See you at the next show!
Brax.
