A quick show of bands.

Last weekend I went to an interesting show. It was a songwriter's showcase that was supposed to be held in a coffee shop. A last minute planning error forced the promoter to move the event to a nearby church. The resulting event had a smaller turnout than expected, but the bands were no less enjoyable.
Here's a quick rundown:
The opening artist was a guy named Marc Decock. I'd never heard of him before. He claimed he wasn't really a performer, but he did have some songwriting skills.
Next up was Cliff Sliger. He played an awesome set, along with his wife Kristen, that included looping rhythm acoustic guitar tracks so he could play leads over himself. At one point he broke a string, so he made a quick couple of loop layers, left them running, changed out his guitar with a new one, and picked the song back up seamlessly. Sweet!
Then Ann Lynn took the stage. This was actually the second husband wife act of the evening, with just Josh Pool and his wife Andrea performing as Ann Lynn. Their set was stunning, and I don't say it lightly. Their harmonies were out of this world. Andrea should be a permanent member of the band!
Last, but certainly not least, was Jeff Mayfield of Son of Heatwave. His solo sets are always a treat, and this one was particularly cool since he took the time to explain some of his often enigmatic lyrics. Who knew a song about killing a moth could be so beautiful?
So overall, in spite a a pretty small crowd, this was a sweet show. Also, as you can see from the picture above, the church appeared to be alien friendly as they had this cool image of a spaceship hanging on the wall. I really felt at home.
Brax.
