Danielson at Spaceland.

Manny and I ventured out to L.A. to catch Danielson and Soul Junk at Spaceland. As you know, I'm not a huge fan of going to shows in L.A. However, for that lineup at a venue called Spaceland, sacrifices had to be made.
We left late, knowing full well that no matter how late we were, the opening band wouldn't have started yet. We were right.
But first, we had to park.
Spaceland has mandatory valet parking. I hate to pay for parking (see this strip) so I thought I'd park on the street and move the car in between bands. But, when we got inside, we found out they have no in's and out's (another pet peeve, see this strip). So, then we had to go back out to the car and find an ATM to pay for the mandatory valet parking. When we returned, the valet guy had no change, so we had to go back out again, this time to a convenience store, to get change. Finally, we returned, paid, and then got back inside. After all that, we still didn't miss the opening band.
Oh yeah, the show was great, once we made it inside. Soul Junk canceled, but Matt Wignall of Havalina Rail Co. fame played a sweet set with Deep Sea Diver instead. Danielson was awesome, of course. They played mostly newer material, which was a little disappointing, but they still rocked, super high falsetto style.
All in all, it was a great show in spite of the parking fiasco. For a place called Spaceland, they have surprisingly little parking space available, but the bands they book often make it worth the L.A. drive.
